From its iconic long beaches to Rainforest hinterlands and rural valleys, this special corner of the world is likely to become a cyclists haven as the savvy adventure traveller looks for a safe, secure and inviting destination to explore.
The Sunshine Coast & its nearby Hinterland situated just an hours drive North of the capital Brisbane showcases this amazing diversity. Starting in the quiet farming town of Maleny complete with its majestic views across the coast and out through the Western valleys is our home for the first 4 nights. After the challenging hills & ranges of the Southern end of this region we move North via an inicredible ride through the Mary valley to the famous town of Noosa heads and its busy and vibrant tourist settings. Still some amazing rides to be had on quiet roads combined with the scenic coastal highway and its beach

Day 1 - Maleny Arrival Arrive Wednesday 3rd February. Transfers available from Brisbane international airport.
Accommodation : - 4 nights Maleny. Day 2 - Montville - Lake Baroon Easy start. Gentle ride down to the Kondalilla Falls National Park. A cool Swim in picturesque Lake Baroon before coffee in the gorgeous English style village of Montville. Back over the short but nasty hills to Maleny. A relaxing afternoon in the historic hinterland town. Sumptuous dinner tonight at Tranquil Park overlooking the majestic Glasshouse Mountains. 50-60k Short but steep hills. Day 3 - Maleny - Brisbane (one way) Lots of fast descents today as we come down from our Hinterland base through the Samson Valley and into Brisbane, Queensland’s riverside capital from its North West rural roads.
We head right into the city centre, storing our bikes at the central Roma St station and a chance to wander the capital, enjoy lunch in one of the many well maintained parks and gardens before heading home to our base via a train to landsborough and a short van ride up the steep hill. 120k. Some rolling hills, lots of descending today. Day 4 - Coastal Circuit We start the day with the hair raising descent to Landsborough before the gentle rollers of Steve Irwin Way and into the Sunshine Coast’s most southerly city of Caloundra. We follow the beautiful coastal route and beaches into Mooloolaba in time for a body surf in the protected waters of one of Queensland’s most picturesque and popular beaches.
We head away from the coast to the Mooloolah valley towns of Chevallum and Palmwoods before the gentle 10k ascent up to Montville. Just a few short hills from there back into Maleny. 100k circuit mix of descent, flat with 1 moderate climb. Day 5 - Maleny to Noosa via the Mary Valley (one way). Today we leave our base in the Hinterland for the famous tourist enclave of Noosa, our home for the next 4 nights.
The ride begins with a long descent into the Mary Valley and a gentle roll into the cheese making town of Kenilworth for morning coffee. Then some solid but scenic climbs through the valley and some of its historic towns before the rolling quiet back roads into Noosa. A one way scenic wonder today with some quintessential Australian towns and landscape that will ensure this day lasts long in the memory. A Jazz band and sunset ales will cap it all off. 140k Mostly undulating, 1 large climb. Day 6 - Rest Day Surf's up !. Today we rest the trusty steeds and chance our arm at the famous Aussie pastime of surfing. Well renowned local surf experts show us the way it’s done. A chance for a walk or jog around the Noosa National park trails with views over some of Australia’s secret surf hotspots. Spend the afternoon wandering the busy Hastings St precinct or relaxing at one of the many seaside bars or cafes. Day 7 - Noosa beach circuit Today we explore some of the Noosa hinterland and quaint nearby villages. Some spectacular scenery around the Eumundi valley before making our way back to the coast via another wonderful beach town of Coolum. Some gentle rolling hills alongside the coast takes us back to Noosa with some short detours of local beaches. 80k All undulating Day 8 - Noosa to Rainbow Beach. (one way) A long but very rewarding day as we head North towards the remote and laid back tourist village of Rainbow Beach. A renowned camping, fishing and step off point for the famous sand island of Fraser, this day will be a memorable reminder of the wonders of Queensland and its traditional Australian regions. We have a late lunch at the local pub before a van ride home with stories of our past weeks experiences fresh in our memories. 150k. Mostly flat, some rolling hills Day 9 - Departure day. |
